You have to apply for the citizenship of America. There are so many formalities you have to under go as you are born elsewhere. Thanks n regards Mano Indian Air Force Retd.

If you mean you had a child who was born in the USA last yr, and when can you get American citizenship... You can't unless.. You get a valid settlement visa on your own and fulfill the residency requirement for citizenship... Or your USA citizen child can petition you when they are 21. They have to meet certain requirements in order to successful petition you..including but not limited to income requirements. Donna

Having a child who is an US citizen doesn't give you any particular rights regarding immigration to the US. If the child earns enough money to sponsor you after he is 21 he can sponsor you for US citizenship. Until then, there is no benefit to you.

LIke others have already stated, an American citizen child does not automatically grant you citizenship for yourself. If this child was an adult he could sponsor you but I doubt that is the case in your circumstance. You would be required to apply through normal channels. However I would advise that you obtain a lawyer to help you and hopefully expedite your process whenever possible. Even with the lawyer's help though prepare your mind that it could take a while.

When he turns 21 he can petition for a green card for you. You can not get citizenship just because you had a child born here.

Only 21 years to wait ...and probably by then the wait will be another 10 years ...

US citizenship cannot be passed from children to parents, the child may sponsor you when he is 21 years of age and perhaps if and when you enter the US some years later you would be able to apply for US citizenship. Until then ? Nothing you can do.
