How long the Israeli did live in Egypt

How long the Israeli did live in Egypt???
According to old testament bible: "Now the sojourning of the children of Israel, who dwelt in Egypt, was four hundred and thirty years." (Exodus 12:40) 430 Years, right? But when we see the family tree. "And the sons of Levi; Gershon, Kohath, and Merari." (Genesis 46:11) "And the sons of Kohath; Amram, and Izhar...bla bla bla" (Exodus 6:18) "And Amram took him Jochebed his father's sister to wife; and she bare him Aaron and Moses: and the years of the life of Amram were an hundred and thirty and seven years." (Exodus 6:20) So, from Levi to Moses can be simply written as: Levi > Jochebed(Kohath's sister, Moses's mother) > Moses It is possible to say that near the time of Levi, the Israeli lived in Egypt. So 430 - 80 = 350 years. So the question: Is it possible to make 3 generations in between 350 years?? Contradition? Sorry, English is not my first language. Hope all of you can understand my question. I am a christian too and just a bit doubt of it. Pls help ^^ ya, I agree that the life was a bit longer in the past, but .. "and the years of the life of Levi were an hundred thirty and seven years" (Exodus 6:16) So the years of the life of Jochebed(Kohath's sister, Moses's mother) must be larger than (350 - 137) = 213 year old ? Any better explanation? is it possible to miss out something in the family tree ??

Yes, but it also depends on how one defines, "generation".....
2 :
in the early days, human lives were slightly longer. just some examples. Genesis 5:5 - Altogether, Adam lived 930 years, and then he died. Genesis 11:17 - And after he became the father of Peleg, Eber lived 430 years and had other sons and daughters. Job 42:16 - After this, Job lived a hundred and forty years; he saw his children and their children to the fourth generation. know that the Old Testament is more of a detailed introduction about the beginning and how the people had failed short of God's glory and rules, which is why God sent Jesus for us, that we might be forgiven of our sins. that said, it is not possible that you look at some rules in it and conclude that is what christians are supposed to be like. for example, we no longer make animal sacrifices, not because its not needed, but because Jesus came to redeem us.

ISRAELITES 215 YEARS IN RAMESES EGYPT 430 YEARS AFTER COVENANT Egypt was world Empire #1 and over the whole area, Abraham at age 75 Gen.12:4,10; 427 years after the flood, went down into Egypt because of a famine in Canaan, Abraham age 75 gets the Promised Land covenant [ or the land will be taken from the land pirates and given to the family of Abraham in generation four Gen.15:13,16; was age 100 when Isaac was born Gen.21:5; Isaac was age 75 when Abraham died 527 year after the flood. Jacob was age 15, when Abraham died, Isaac died 105 years later at age 180 Gen.35:28,29; 632 years after the flood, Jacob was age 120. Gen.47:9,11,28; Jacob is age 130 at 642 years after the flood, is placed in Rameses Egypt, of the 70 family members, Joseph lives elsewhere, so after 215 years in Canaan, they are in Rameses Egypt. At generation four Exo.6:16-23,26; Moses and Aaron Exo.7:7; Ready for Exodus Exo.12:40,41; 430 years after the Promised Land covenant or as the Apostle Paul said 430 years to the law Gal.3:16-18. I feel like im getting more dumb answering this. Yes, people live there. And from reading this I bet there are A LOT more places that you have never heard about or met someone from there. I think the old saying is, "What you don't know could fill a book"
2 :
Yes, of course. Egyptians didn't become extinct. :-\
3 :
Wow, I hope you're still a child. Please get educated. Egypt is on of the most influential countries in the damn world!!
4 :
Not only do people live in Egypt but it is one of the oldest civilizations in the world. People also live in neighboring countries Libya, Chad, Sudan, Israel, Gaza (palestinian territories), actually Egypt is the most populated country in the Middle East... I think that people live in every country in the world except antarctica and the south pole but I am sure there are a few people there too. You might have heard of a major conflict called the Arab-Israeli conflict in which Jews and arabs have had several wars in the last 60+ years? One of the very BIG wars was between Egypt and Israel, both coming out of the conflict with a US brokered peace agreement that gives both countries yearly allowances of billions of US tax dollars in foreign aid!! Lets hope there are people living there or else 50 billion + US dollars has been given to a country with no people! Many Egyptians are born in Egypt but many people that are not Egyptians are born there too such as Palestinian Leader for many years Yasser Arafat! Yasser Arafat was born in Cairo which is the capitol city in Egypt!! Egypt contributed much to civilization in ancient times, but also today you will find some of the best arabic arts, culture and literature coming out of Egypt. It is also one of the important countries involved in resolving the ongoing conflict between the Palestinians and Israelis, by facilitating very important meetings for peace conferences and negotiations related to prisoner exchanges. Egypt also produces some of the softest cotton in the world. Should I go on?
5 :
Yes, Egyptians live in Egypt. We are modern Egyptians. We go to schools, universities, travel abroad for higher studies. We use computers and have Yahoo! accounts. We ride cars, buses, trains, airplanes (our national flight is called Egyptair). We live in apartment buildings and villas. And guess what, we also have McDonald, Starbucks, Burger King, Pizza Hut and KFC!
6 :
What a challenging , stimulating question......I guess the simple answer will do .... YES !
7 :
There are only 81 million Egyptians living in Egypt...how could you miss that? Read some books.
8 :
Guys, please try to refrain yourself from being sarcastic or assuming that the asker is American, at least that she is making the effort to learn, unlike others, that were ignorant, bigoted and plain rude (we've all come across them) Now to answer you're question, Yes, there are people who live in Egypt dates back to 6000 B.C. and is one of the most populous and advanced countries in Africa and the Middle East The population is over 76 Million (March 2009 estimate) and the currency is the Egyptian pound and 80% of the population is Muslim with a Coptic Christian minority of 20%

I'm glad Mubarak is gone. I'm worried about what happens next.
2 :
I hope your military lets democracy happen faster than it appears that they are
3 :
Hopefully the Egyptians get freedom and peace.
4 :
Congratulations. We hope your freedom lasts. Iran has set up a protest tomorrow.
5 :
Compared to the fall of the Berlin Wall, its just another run of the mill coup. Lets see where your People take it~!
6 :
I really don't know what to think. I believe it's right that you guys kick the current president to the curb, but now here comes the hard part; reform. Look at the French revolution, from the time the king and queen were kicked out of office, all hell broke loose for the people. Various people fighting for control, that's what I expect to happen next to Egypt. Just continue to stand for what you believe in and don't let others tell you otherwise.
7 :
Personally, I think that people have the right to protest. However, when violence is involved, then I am strongly opposed. In Egypt, Mubarak resigned from office and it was clearly in the best interests of the people, but we should be wary of his successors into government. He was a key player in the Middle Eastern peace talks and now he is gone, that could damage the talks. Hopefully his successors will continue to be key players in those peace talks, but only time will tell. Also there is fear that the Muslim Brotherhood may get share of power, but my only view on this is that I hope this doesn't make Egypt "anti-Israel", etc. As your question included, "What do people outside Egypt think..." then I should point out that I am from the United Kingdom.
8 :
Cautiously optimistic. Your from Egypt? Wow your avatar looks like someone from North Huntingdon PA.
9 :
when any country has riots and rebellions it caused fear in the world. The world is going through a Depression caused by greed or the love of money so of course there is going to be trouble
